Overwhelmed by Kitchen Remodeling? Start Here.

As fun and exciting as remodeling a kitchen can be, there is a lot about it that makes it a daunting task. You have so many options, especially if you are doing a complete remodel, so it’s understandable that you might not know where to start. Depending on your needs, the size of your kitchen, and the design of your house, certain upgrades or changes will better suit your new kitchen than others.

To help you get started, our team at SRS Construction has some ideas to inspire your kitchen remodeling project.

Open-Concept Layout

If your kitchen feels cramped or small, but you don’t have room to expand, an open-concept layout can be a game changer. Although you are not actually adding any space to your kitchen, the open-concept layout can make it feel larger. Knocking down walls to connect the kitchen to your living room or dining room also allows you to be in the kitchen without feeling isolated from the rest of your home.

Upgrade Cabinets and Storage

When remodeling your kitchen, you always want to start with what isn’t working in your current kitchen. If you ask anyone what they don’t like about their kitchen, they will probably tell you that they don’t have enough storage space. So if you are one of those people, plan your remodel around ways to get more storage space into your kitchen. Look for places to sneak in skinny cabinets, anywhere you can add shelving, or ways to make your current cabinets easier to organize.

Add Countertop Space

If you don’t have any complaints about your cabinets or storage, something you may dissatisfied with is how much countertop space you have. Having more worktop surfaces makes it easier to prepare meals or for multiple members of your family to work in the kitchen at once. If you have the space, a kitchen island is a great way to get more countertop space (and storage!) into your kitchen. For smaller kitchens that don’t have room for an island, adding or extending a kitchen peninsula can be a viable alternative. A countertop peninsula can also help create some definition in an open-concept kitchen.
